The Red Wines of South America
It seems that all of a sudden the red wines of both Chile and Argentina have made quantum leaps in quality. Much like California, Chile produces a wide range of both whites & reds, but it is their unique Carmenere grape that is now all the rage, and with good reason. Across the Andes to the East in Argentina, it is the deep reds from the Malbec grape that are currently capturing the attention of savvy wine drinkers.
Class II—Wednesday, March 3 6:30PM
The Rhone Style Wines of California’s Paso Robles Region
Paso Robles in San Luis Obispo County south of San Francisco has a warm & dry climate that is highly suitable for growing the Rhone grapes that include Syrah & Grenache for the reds and Viognier for the whites. As a rule these wines are full of flavor and delicious to drink young in the glory of their youth!
Class III—Wednesday, March 10 6:30PM
California vs. France (Reds & Whites)
I never tire of comparing some of France’s best and most distinct reds & whites with their California counterparts. The different climatic conditions of these giants of the wine world are clearly discernable in their wines. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay for the whites and Pinot Noir, Merlot, Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon for the reds: come taste & compare the fruit of the French vines and those of our own California.
